Progress on the Atullah-Ntse Nchenated Road Project in Upper Lewoh
In the heart of Upper Lewoh, a critical infrastructure project is helping transform the daily lives of residents—one stretch of road at a time. The Atullah-Ntse Nchenated Road Project, a vital link between Lewoh Fondom, Nguondeng, and the city of Dschang, is making remarkable strides thanks to the collective efforts of the community and international supporters.
This initiative began in January 2017, when a chain foot caterpillar was mobilized to open the road between Njenabang and Atullah. Funded through the contributions of the Upper Lewoh Development Association, this first phase cost approximately 4.5 million CFA francs. Despite the challenges, the community came together to fund and oversee this critical phase, demonstrating their commitment to long-term progress and accessibility for all.
Road access in rural areas like Upper Lewoh plays a vital role in development. It connects families to schools, patients to medical facilities, and farmers to markets. Before the project, this route was nearly impassable, particularly during the rainy season. By opening the road with heavy machinery in the first phase, the groundwork was laid for what promises to be a transformative corridor for trade, communication, and social engagement.
Now, the second phase of the Atullah-Ntse Nchenated Road project is underway, focusing on making the road usable year-round. This phase includes hiring an overhead loader and a truck to lay laterite and construct proper gutters along the road. These steps are essential to prevent erosion, maintain road structure, and ensure safe, reliable transportation in all seasons.
Supporting this effort, LECUDEM USA stepped in with a generous contribution of $1,000 (equivalent to 500,000 CFA francs) in 2024. This financial boost is helping push the second phase forward, and represents a strong connection between the Cameroonian diaspora and local development goals. LECUDEM’s support underscores the importance of community-driven partnerships in achieving sustainable progress.
The road project is more than a matter of logistics—it’s a story of unity, resilience, and hope. It exemplifies what is possible when communities take initiative and when organizations like LECUDEM USA step in to lend a helping hand. Every franc invested into this project brings Upper Lewoh one step closer to improved transportation, economic opportunity, and regional integration.
While more work lies ahead, the progress already made is inspiring. As the second phase continues, the community remains optimistic that, with continued support, this road will become a lasting symbol of collaboration and growth.
